Clifford H. Schilke M.D.
Dr. Clifford Schilke completed his undergraduate education at Cornell College, Mount Vernon, Iowa in 1966, receiving a BA cum laude in philosophy and being elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Following college, he taught secondary school for several years in West Cameroon, West Africa. After returning to United States, he completed his premedical education at the University of Illinois, Chicago Circle, and then matriculated at Hahnemann Medical College, now Drexel University College of Medicine, in Philadelphia. He received an MD degree in 1978. Following an internship at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh in Internal Medicine, he practiced Emergency Medicine for 5 years at Butler Memorial Hospital in Butler, Pennsylvania. Thereafter he began his residency in Adult Psychiatry at the University Pittsburgh Medical School. His training also included extensive experience in treating adolescents. Completing his residency in 1987, he practiced inpatient adult psychiatry at Hampton Hospital in New Jersey for one year, after which he accepted a senior administrative role as medical director of the secure inpatient psychiatric unit at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He simultaneously began an outpatient practice of adult and adolescent psychiatry. Retiring from full-time practice in 2015, he moved with his wife to Chapel Hill, North Carolina. After 2 years of retirement, he resumed a part-time practice. Initially for 2 years, he worked as a psychiatrist for several organizations in the Chapel Hill area and then decided in February 2019 to resume an outpatient private practice. Beginning in 2021 this became an exclusively telemedicine practice.
Dr.Schilke has received more specific training in different forms of psychotherapy. He had extensive training in clinical hypnosis through the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis. In 1991 he completed a three-year program of training in Gestalt therapy with the Gestalt Institute of Philadelphia. Finally, for the past 25 years, he has received intensive training in over 10 different methods of “energy therapy”.
